IT'S SCHOOL CENSUS TIME
During the months of May & June, the Ashland-Greenwood Public Schools will be taking a census of children in the school district from birth through age 18. Bev Hohensee will be conducting the count for the school district. The census is used for reporting a count of all children to the State of Nebraska by ages and is also used by the district for program planning. If your child is already enrolled in the Ashland-Greenwood School District we already have a record of them, but if you have younger children not in school yet or are new to the district, we would like information on your children.
The information needed is: Parents' name, address and phone number, and children's names, birthdates and gender. Please complete the form attached to this article and send it to: Ashland-Greenwood Public Schools, Attn. Bev Hohensee, 1842 Furnas Street, Ashland, NE 68003 or email Bev at email@example.com with your information. You may also call the Superintendent's Office at 402-944-2128 if you have any questions.
Also, if you know someone who has recently moved into, or lives in the school district and has children below Kindergarten age, please let us know so we can include these children. To be included on the 2017-2018 census, we need the information by June 30th, but sooner would be very appreciated.
As the Census is an ongoing process, and we know there are some of you out there that may be expecting a baby in the near future, you may also send information to Bev throughout the school year. Thank you for your help.
GO TO THE ASHLAND GREENWOOD PUBLIC SCHOOL WEBSITE AND CLICK ON THE CENSUS FORM IN ARTICLE.AND SUBMIT.

GREENBLATT & SEAY SONGBOOK
Multi-instrumentalists, Greenblatt & Seay, will be sharing their original tunes and stories on Sunday, May 14, at 2:30 PM, in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse. This concert celebrates over 30 years of musical experiences inspired by their children, their students, and their Schoolhouse home/studio/sanctuary. Light-hearted vocals will blend with the supportive textures of fiddle, harmonica, guitar, nyckelharpa, mandolin, etc.
Greenblatt & Seay have been playing beautiful music together since the night they met. Both are now Master Artists with the Nebraska Arts Council's Artist-in-the-Schools program, and participate in Humanities Nebraska's Speakers Bureau.
The concert will be downstairs, and followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and even jam with Greenblatt & Seay.
Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13 C Spur, one mile south of Highway 34.
Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students and senior citizens, and $1.00 for children. Seating is limited. For more information, write to Greenblatt & Seay, The Old Schoolhouse, P.O. Box 671, Avoca, Nebraska, 68307, or call 402-275-3221, or e-mail them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse was built in 1925, and has been the home of the Schoolhouse Performance Series since 1990. Music lessons, workshops, fiddle camps, and field trips are offered by Schoolhouse residents, Greenblatt & Seay, and are available by appointment.
You probably remember the tragic fire last October that took the lives of 6 beautiful souls of our rural community. The Speer family lived in the country between Weeping Water, Murray and Nehawka.
A LOVING, LASTING TRIBUTE...
Last October 20, 2016, as children were anxiously anticipating Halloween and lots of trick-or-treating, a beautiful, young family of six perished in the night, as their rural home went up in flames. Four little girls, Elli, Adilynn, Emma, ages 11, 7 and 5, were students at Conestoga Elementary and had many friends, in and around the surrounding area, as did their baby sister, Anniston, 2, and their parents, Mike and Michelle Speer.
In honor of her family, JoLynne Lehan, Mike's mom, has directed that donations go to Conestoga's outdoor classroom, Cougar Hollow. With the four little girls' love of performing, playing and being out-of-doors exploring nature, in mind, the new additions for this special area will include a pavilion for outdoor instruments, a chalkboard and chairs. A memorial fountain will be added at a later date.
A brick walking path will direct visitors to this special area. If you would like to honor this family with a loving tribute, you may purchase a memorial brick paver for $75. You may add any name to be engraved on the brick. There is space for 3 rows, with each row including a total of 14 characters, (including spaces). The clock is ticking...you need to order soon. Download an order form with complete directions here.
Thank you for helping to make this vision possible!
